ABOUT MGLS

Myanmar GI &Liver Society (MGLS)

Myanmar GI &Liver Society was established in 1999 made up of gastroenterologists, hepatologists, physicians and surgeons. The first president was Prof Khin Maung Win, Consultant Hepatologist.
MGLS is one of the specialty societies of Myanmar Medical Association. Generally, MGLS has two groups on the basis of the main interest subject, Myanmar Gastroenterology Association (MGA) and Myanmar Hepatology Association (MHA). Currently, MGLS President is Professor Than Than Aye, MGA President is Prof Moe Myint Aung and Prof Win Win Swe is President of MGA.
The objects of MGLS are to promote education, research and maintain standards in the practice of gastroenterology and hepatology in order to improve quality of health care. MGLS also aims to promote regional and international cooperation in gastroenterology and hepatology by organizing meetings, seminars and workshops to educate doctors, nurses and the public. MGLS is dedicated to providing guidelines to relevant professional associations and clinicians who are practicing hepatology and gastroenterology.

Webinars

Since during Covid we have been organizing training with NBI endoscopy technology for detection of early stage cancer and therapeutic endoscopy practice for the gastroenterologists and pathologists, collaboration with Asian Novel Bio-Imaging and Intervention Group (ANBIG). Again, with collaboration with Asia EUS Group (AEG), diagnostic and therapeutic EUS through the zoom platform. Direct live transmission from AIG hospital (Hyderabad) was held recently. MGLS has implemented a series of local webinar seminars to junior; GERD, IBS, Functional dyspepsia, constipation and chronic diarrhea. As a virtual workshop, collaboration with AIG Hyderabad conducted as a live demonstration session.

MGLS organized its first International scientific symposium in 2010.Being the first of international symposium in its country, the symposium received overwhelming responses. It subsequently became an annual event until 2020. The 7th International scientific symposium will be held in December 2024.
